As our nation went into a virtual lockdown, Texas distilleries saw the wide-spread shortage of hand sanitizers and, after receiving regulatory guidance, immediately responded. They went to work as essential employees, cranked up their stills, bottling lines, and labeling operations and started making alcohol for hand sanitizer. Our distillers receive an average of 50 direct requests per day for hand sanitizer. These requests come from hospitals, law enforcement, EMS, nursing homes, blood banks, pathology laboratories, oncology centers, emergency rooms, and military posts all throughout Texas. ALL of these workers and organizations on the front line have been and continue to be in desperate need of ethyl-based hand and surface sanitizers.

At the same time, the unique direct-to-consumer sales restrictions placed on distillers have severely limited their ability to earn revenue to maintain their operations. Texas distillers are experiencing 60%-80% losses in revenue since COVID-19
At a time like this, safe and responsible direct-to-consumer delivery options are critical to keeping our economy moving. Distilleries have been deemed essential businesses, and that has never been more clear than during this public health crisis. Distillers do not want to put their customers into a position where they need to travel to obtain their products in-person.
They need more direct-to-consumer sales options in order to keep their businesses going. Opening these sales channels to Texas distillers —as has been done recently in other states, — will give these small business owners a fighting chance to maintain their businesses and pay their employees, while providing a variety of much-needed products during this pandemic.
Please use the form on this page to advocate for the temporary waiver of direct-to-consumer sales restrictions under TABC code Section 14.05 imposed on Texas distilleries. This will keep Texans safe while keeping Texas’ economy moving forward.

OTHER WAYS YOU CAN HELP
- Distilleries are offering their sanitizers to healthcare and first-responders as a priority. Check with each distillery to see if they are offering sanitizer to the public. This changes on a daily basis.
- If they offer sanitizer, please use their drive-thru or social distancing protocols for pickup.
- Support each of these distilleries by purchasing merchandise if you can, and if you visit a local distillery for sanitizer pickup, consider buying the legal limit of their usual products to support these companies.
- Support the #StillStrongTX campaign and the Texas Whiskey Association by purchasing a T-shirt for $24.95. Proceeds help the Texas Whiskey Association’s advocacy and coordination efforts.
